Step up flute??
Hi all! I just joined and am looking for advice on purchasing my first step-up flute. I'm currently playing in my high school's band, and am wanting to join the local youth symphony next year. I'm currently playing a Jupiter 507 student flute. It's a good flute, but my teacher thought I overpowered it and recommended I begin looking for a silver headjoint, B foot intermediate flute. I personally like the Jupiter 611, as I'm familiar with the brand and it's not terribly expensive, but I'd love any advice y'all can provide! Thanks!

The Jupiter 611 or 711 are good choices.Great value for the flute and the headjoint. For the money, you will not do any better. Flute snobs do not like Jupiters for some reason. Maybe because they are Taiwanese made.stormageddon wrote:I personally like the Jupiter 611, as I'm familiar with the brand and it's not terribly expensive.
There are a few other brands in that price range like Pearl for example. The most important thing is how comfortable you are playing on it. Check out the Flute FAQ for other recommended brands.

There are a multitude of these posts on here. Do more homework, do some reading, try them all, buy what you like. Easy!

Have you talked to your music instructor? If you are going to college next year, you might stop in to see your college music professor?
