Yay! Getting my new flute!

Post by FltnPicc_David »

FINALLY! Oh, goodness. I'm really excited, everyone! That one feeling you get when you find the flute just for you and nothing else can replace that feeling. I'm getting a Yamaha 674HHV [Solid Silver HJ, Body, FJ; EC Headjoint; Open Holes; B-Foot; White Gold Springs; Offset G; HEAVY WALL] I'm really excited and jittery! I compared the regular wall and the heavy wall and found that it complimented my tone and style of playing much better!

So we called Fluteworld and the woman Diane was extremely sweet and helpful and she asked me who my flute teacher was and when I gave her the name, she said, "Oh! She's in our list! You get a $300 discount!" FLUTEWORLD ROCKS. XD It'll be arriving Tuesday and I'll take pictures and post them here!

Hi!
This is an avid lurker, never poster, newbie Diane, from Flute World! I just want to clarify, although I would *love* to be able to give people discounts based on their teachers, unfortunately, we are unable to do this.

The discount on the flute (674HHV) is because Yamaha will not let their dealers actually advertise their sale prices, and instead institute a minimum advertised price (MAP) on their instruments. This means that we cannot actually advertise our instore, discounted price due to manufacturer restrictions.

So, you would have seen it on the website listed at a discounted price of $2899 when we actually sell it for less. You basically have to call to find out what the actual sale price is. This would be the discount you received, which is for all of our customers. And, in some cases, brands like Muramatsu, Altus, etc, will not allow any discounts at all in order to keep things fair between all their dealers.

I do appreciate the feedback on my service, and am always happy to help!! :)

Yeah, I had a good experience on flute world to, Barb was my help. Extremely informative!
Wow, a Yamaha 674, that's what I'm hoping to get, pocket book willing. I tried a Sonare earlier this month from fluteworld, but when we compared it to other instruments in the same price range, we decided against it, so I'm continuing my now three month search for the perfect match.

Let us now how your dream flute performs!

Congrats! I really like the upper end Yamaha flutes. However, the specs I wanted werent available for the series I could afford [600/700] unless I jumped up to the 800/900 series. Thus, this quickly marked Yamaha off of my list of possible companies.

But, it all worked out for the best. And, your Yamaha should hold up for quite a long time. There is a girl in my studio who plays the same model as yours, and her flute is about 15 years old. It still plays wonderfully. True... it could use some plating work on the keys in a couple of places, but she is really hard on her flute because she doesnt take proper care of it.

Be sure to tell us about it when it gets here!

Well, Japanese companies kind of stick together. You will never see one Japanese company talk bad about the other, or advertise their product is better than the other. The whole price thing falls in line with that.

ARGH. It didn't come today. No notification, either and I didn't get a tracking number so I'm guessing there was a delay.

It FINALLY arrived! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. I sat and compared my old Gemeinhardt for a bit with the Yamaha and when I removed the plugs I noticed a more open sound form the flute! The response is amazing! I've been struggling through the second mvt of Gaubert's Nocturne et Allegro Scherzando and this flute made it feel like a breeze. The resistance is great, allowing me to have a deeper, darker sound that I wanted to get!

Thank you! Mergh. Well i found a minor adjustment problem with it that makes F#, G, A and Ab fuzzy at times. [The one key on the left hand side of the flute that isn't pressed - the big one - doesn't seal off all the way, it's still open a little bit.] But it's not a HUGE problem and could be quickly fixed, I assume. But here are some new pictures with much better lighting XP:

Haha. I finally realized I needed to plug up a ton of holes.

For Diane at Flute World

Post by MrTurveydrop »

First of all - congrats FltnPicc_David on your new Yamaha 674! But as long as we have Diane 'on the line' I was wondering if she could explain the difference in the Yamaha body types (the Yamaha website doesn't do that well). What is a 'type 1' as opposed to a 'type 4'? And why would it make a Yamaha 881 $1500. less than a 874, 884 or an 894? Or $2000. less than a 892 (which has a 'type 2' body)?? If you could give a quick rundown on what these designations mean and how they affect the flute I would really appreciate it. Thanks Diane!

congratulations :D I actually tried out a yamaha at SamAsh today and found that I loove these flutes. They actually had a 261, 481 and 574, I was lucky :D some people ordered a bunch to try, and left those and some others behind. I tried them all with the model numbers covered, and chose the 481. It surprised me because I had heard that the difference between the 500 series and the lower models was very different, that the 500+ series was much better. But yeah, I'm soooo excited, I should be getting it sometime next week :D

edit: okay apparently, the person who had ordered the 481, also ordered it with a different headjoint... they couldn't tell me what kind though.

Well I'm guessing if the person changed the headjoints and it's still a Yamaha headjoint then the model is stamped on the headjoint. My headjoint says EC on it. But since you already found that you like the 481 I wouldn't be too bothered witht hat headjoint model is, just the fact that you loved it!
And my friend Ashley [red headed flutist] who just transferred to Sickles told me she met you, I think....I think that's right. Hahaha XP.
