Tone holes
Do tone holes absolutely absolutely have to be flat and round or can shimming and seating make up for slight out of round or vertical warpage?

Toneholes aren't always perfectly round, nor are they always perfectly flat. If you have rolled/drawn toneholes, unless they have been leveled [with a tool that shaves the tonehole down to make it perfectly flat], they probably won't be perfectly flat. Unless the warpage seems extreme, it shouldn't be too much of a problem if you shim your pads carefully. Problems like these are only difficult if you are installing pads like Straubingers or JS Gold pads or if the uneven-ness is extreme.
