Old Muramatsu flutes

Post by Foxy »

Hi all!

I'm interested in learning about old Muramatsu flutes, as it seems to be impossible to find anything one them on internet.
I'm mainly talking about models designated with an "M" like M-60, M-85, M-102, M-160 etc.

I would be happy to know what these model numbers stand for, were they all handmade, or did Muramatsu make machinemade instruments in the past, what materials were the different models made of, which of those would be considered "student" (was there even a student level Muramatsu ever made?), "intermediate" or "professional", did they use the same headjoint cuts, if not what was the difference between them, when they were made, how do they compare to modern flutes, etc.

I play a modern Muramatsu but unfortunately, I cannot tell you much about any of the older M series flutes. I believe that all Muramatsu flute are and were handmade. Most likely, the older models simply designate which ones were open or closed holes, all silver, silver body w/plated keys, or silver head w/plated body and keys, etc. If you are on Facebook, I'd suggest joining the Flute Forum group on there. I know there are several Muramatsu experts on there who can likely provide a definitive answer to your question.
