Gemeinhardt 3kSB
Hello All, any info about Gemeinhardt 3kSB model would be greatly appreciated. Known: French open hole with pointed arms, SS Head/Body/Foot. When might it have been Mfg., approximate value; is it considered conservatory or Professional?
I have one of these as my outdoors/camping/backup flute.
From the Gemeinhardt November 1998 Price List:
Solid Silver Body and Foot, Solid Silver Standard Wall "J" Headjoint, Silver-Plated Keys, 12K Gold Springs, Pointed Pad Cups, Treated Unbleached Pads, Hidden Adjusting Screws, Gizmo Key, Low B Foot, CFPBG Case (Green Plush Interior) and CFCG Green Naugahyde Case Cover
Retail Price: $2280 which was heavily discounted to $1200 at the time at Woodwind&Brasswind.
Don't care for the "J" Headjoint at all, "free blowing" is not for me.

Hey cflutist, Thanks for the info on the 3kSB. I talked with the Gemeinhardt folks and they said they didn't have a model # 3kSB. Does your flute actually have that stamped into the head of the body or does it have something else on it. Thanks again for helping me out.
PS Have you tried other headjoints on this flute with better results?

Yes, they did have a 3KSB in 1998. The person at Gemeinhardt is incorrect.
It is stamped "3 KSB" on the barrel under the

The headjoint, body, foot are all stamped "SOLID SILVER"
I prefer to use my thinwall Haynes, or my 14K Williams headjoint.
Gemeinhart makes a whole series of headjoints, some with more resistance than others.

Re: Gemeinhardt 3kSB
cflutist is correct. I have this same model and it was purchased new in 1997. I believe it is a conservatory model, but I came here to find out if anyone knew for sure.
