Hi everyone!
It's only recently that I've started searching the web for flute forums (the idea has never occurred to me before), and fluteland has been a great site to get people's suggestions and recommendations. About a month ago, I received a Muramatsu SR which I ordered a year ago. However, due to where I live, even the biggest music instruments store does not have a wide enough range of flutes to choose from. So, I haven't actually tried the SR model before as they didn't have it in store. Last year when I was intending to buy a new flute, I only had the chance to try out a Muramatsu DS, another Japanese brand (either Sankyo or Miyazawa) and a Powell (I've forgotten the models), and not for a long time too.
So far I'm still finding it quite hard to get used to playing it, it doesn't feel as smooth under my fingers as my previous flute which is a Yamaha471. And the higher octaves sound quite harsh to my ear, which is not something I experience with my Yamaha. Does this mean that I'm not suited to play Muramatsu flutes? Or do these problems arise because I don't practise enough? I don't play in orchestras and I'm not studying music for a degree. Playing the flute is just an enjoyable hobby to me. Is this a bad thing?
Please tell me about my new flute

Re: Please tell me about my new flute
Some time is always required to get adjusted to playing a different flute. Each one feels just a bit different and different headjoints always take some getting used to. Play long tones to get the feel of the headjoint and practice scales to get used to the feel of the keys. Give it some time and you'll adjust.
