Okay, so I started a Flute Choir, & now I need some help

So, I'm the flute section leader at my school, and I thought 'wouldn't it be nice to actually have fun playing our instruments again?' So I asked my section and almost all of them were interested. (There's 17 flutes in my section other than me, so that's saying something.) Well, we ordered the music, but the local college changed their mind about loaning us a bass and alto flute (Another group broke the bass). This music requires those parts, so... Anybody have any helpful hints? We're kinda broke, and we did this outside of school (Our band director said he didn't have time to "babysit" us) so we have no funds.... HELP!!!

See if there are any local flutists with an alto/bass, who may be interested in joining in?

If you cannot find the harmony flutes, transpose the alto part to C flute and drop what you can an octave. Doubling the bass part on C flute can work as well.

THank you for your suggestions, but in response to Meredith, we're a high school group, so I don't know of any who would be all that keen to join in... Also, I can't find anyone who owns a bass or alto in the area. I thought perhaps I could post on here asking for someone, but I'm still debating posting my whereabouts....

To be honest, I don't know many people who would loan out their alto or bass. They are just too expensive. You might want to look for alternatives.

Good luck with your group! The local high school here started a flute choir last year and I have had the honor of conducting them. It is a lot of fun and can be a great learning experience.

fluttiegurl - I think I have found a possible alternative to a bass flute (a reed GG bass flute) which we can afford to purchase, and I have bid on am alto of my own on ebay. Wish me luck!

Also, one of the local colleges finally replied to me and thinks that they may be able to loan us BOTH! He said it's a 3:1 chance that we'll get it! Plus, the amount of help the local colleges are offering is amazing! (We live in a place where there are 4 colleges within a half hour's drive) and they've offered everything from various concert halls, to performing for their students, even masterclasses! It's so wonderful, and I'm really excited for the younger players who aren't in our Wind Ensemble and didn't get the opportunity to go to BOA last March, beacuse this will help them all so much!
