Does any body know if Schiller piccolo's are reputable?
Also Conn-Selmer is marketing a Prelude PC-701 piccolo. It looks like one of those mass peoduced picc's from China. Can anyone verify my suspicions?
Thanks,

The Preludes are lower quality than an actual Selmer picc, and I do believe they come from China, but they are better than the junkers that are listed en masse on eBay. Many name brand instruments are being produced in Asia nowadays. It's not so much about where they come from, but how well they're built.
Schiller piccs are not among the well-established name brand piccs we usually suggest, and I would steer clear. As a general rule, if you don't recognize the name brand, do a google search. If a professional looking website for the manufacturer (not just stores selling the product) doesn't turn up, you should probably avoid that make of instrument.

If you're in the market for a SUPER-CHEAP picc, give the Prelude a shot. It's made by Selmer, in China, but you CAN get repair parts for them, and techs aren't afraid to service them. The scale is reasonable, and the response is ok. For the price. Schiller; never heard of it. Probably, run away.
