Post by andy957 »

This is a fantastic video on YouTube showing how a flute is made. I found it fascinating:

I too thought it was interesting. Having never seen a few of those steps of construction, that made it very interesting indeed. I just wish they had shown more of that Brannen flute from the beginning. It has a lot of extra keys and can produce quarter tones throughout most [if not the whole] range of the flute. Very cool indeed.

Is this the same video that was on the discovery channel? There was a segment on the tv show "How It's Made" that also showed a Brannen. I'm just curious.

Yes it was. I think it's Brannen, judging by the engraving on the flute being shown.

I posted a link to that on one of my other flute lists a few months ago, and someone there said that she had been involved in the making of the video in some fashion (I think working on, or playing one), and, yes, it was Brannen.

Ah, here it is.

Thanks to Jeff for posting the video. I had not yet seen it! Although
the first flute shown in closeup is a Brannen Kingma, the flute that is
being played on the soundtrack is not a Kingma. I know because that is
me playing. The producer of the show had asked me to play something and
I warmed up by playing Felicidade by Antonio Carlos Jobim. I had planned
to play something "classical" and when I said that I was ready, they
said "That was fine, we've got enough, thanks." :-D

It was amazing to watch, I'm very interested in metal smithing and flute making so it was awesome to see.
