What are you doing this summer?

Post by fluteguy18 »

Hey everyone,

Not meaning to get things too off topic from flute, but I have been curious lately about the lives of people on this board besides flute [interests, hobbies etc. etc.] because it gets boring on occasion. So, I decided to start this thread if anyone wants to post any of their activities this summer besides flute-ing.

I myself am getting into the wedding business playing Harp across the state. I have some letters to mail out today, but otherwise I will probably be busy for the rest of the summer.

This month, I am participating in Script Frenzy. Basically, it is like National Novel Writing Month [Nanowrimo] and you have to write a 20,000 word script in a month. You can check it out at: http://www.scriptfrenzy.org

Other than praciticing my brains out, I am looking forward to the Harry Potter book and movie coming out in July.

Any comments? :D

I still teach a few days a week and sometimes work for the city government here, helping out with administrative stuff. In July and August, I teach band camps!! How exciting.

Last summer, I did Wissam Boustany's class in Minnesota.. This year, the only "flutey" vacation I'm taking is for Marianne Gedigian/Jill Felber's class in Santa Barbara, at UCSB. That's at the end of this month! I am really excited.

As for me, working on getting the plot of a book down and set as well as developing characters. Reading in preparation for college, playing with a community band and preparing for contest, and looking for a job. Going to be starting college and I am absolutely broke, not a good situation.

I'm also getting over being sick. Really nasty cold couldn't stop coughing. I really missed playing. Hopefully that doesn't happen again this summer.

I'm moving to Nova Scotia from Maine in a few weeks! Its kinda exciting, although I will really miss my flute teacher here. Does anyone know of good teachers up there?

I'm also going to the junior session of Kinhaven Music School in Weston Vermont.

summer stuff

Post by kdell »

Well, I just got back from an awesome sleep away camp in the Adirondacks based on church stuff. It was really fun. My grandparents and aunt are here from Europe, I'm teaching myself guitar, and I'm hanging out with friends. What's everyone else doing?

Started playing Jazz Flute/Pic for a local band.

I am a Flight Dynamics designer for Team Razbam who is about to release an A6 Intruder, and an ARES Addon for Flight Simulator.

I am staying at home most of the summer...I have to do couple of online courses (bah...studying...bleh) with writing and mathematics. I'm practicing flute and piano as usual...

yes! The new harry potter book is awesome! and most of my predictions were right!

I usually go to the library to meet my friend (um boyfriend) and study and such...

I am practicing flute very rigorously to improve my tone and vibrato...I really want to get into an ensemble offered in the University of Hartford.

I am going to join my church praise team for piano...

I am apparently going to tutor math to a friend...Then I'm going to tutor phonics to a younger kid...

I might go to an island for vacation (in Rhode island), but my family hasn't decided yet.

Meanwhile, I go swimming every weekday...I want to be in a swim team and one day become a lifeguard...So I'm training myself for now...

So that's 'nuff said about my vacation...

Wow, you guys are busy!
I'm trying to get a job, settle with a new flute, and get my algebra grades up.
Oh, and I'm going to a Youth Symphony summer camp, that should be fun!

Mark

I did the gig last night. Did not get a chance to play flute though, it was an all guitar night. Had a good turn out of swing dancers! That made it kind of cool, especially since most of the dancers were in their early 20s which really impressed me!

It is not my favorite music to play. I would rather be playing Jazz fusion! However, it is a lot of fun. It is also challenging because it is 85% sight reading. It really cool when we play stuff like the Austin Powers theme where I get to do some piccolo!

Did not mean to make anyone jealous, but I am glad that you think its cool.
