Which type of vibrato do you use?

Post by atoriphile »

I found a very interesting article online called "CARL PETKOFF AND HIS TECHNIQUE FOR CREATING A SUBTLE AND EXPRESSIVE FLUTE VIBRATO". In it, it describes six different types of vibrato.

See http://www.joearmstrong.info/petkoff_vi ... #exploring. Here is the diagram of the vibrato types:

So which type of vibrato do you use?

I use number 5 (diaphragm) myself.

I use a blend of 4 & 5, but usually more 4 than 5.

I use a combination of Diaphram, tongue, and throat depending on the effect I want to produce.

Don't supose anyone has a youtube or vid link showing the differences in each 6 techniques how they sound using the same notes. For beginners like myself, a diagram looks nice and pretty also the theory but to actually hear how it should sound is another thing. :)

I can only get number 5 to work for me... The others I just don't seem to comprehend the technique. Oh well. I've always used number 5.

5 mostly. 1 seems to work ok too, although I've read that it's not the proper way to do it. (I discovered it by accident :-)
