Audition Selection Help please

Post by flautist82 »

I mentioned down below that I'm auditioning for re-admission into my local University's music program. I left on good terms (had no choice, my car engine exploded and I was left w/o a way to get to/from class each day in an area w/ little to no public transportation) but when I approached my old flute professor about it (she's not the head of the flute dept.) she said that per school policies I had to audition for re-admission. I will be playing for her. She's a great lady, her knowledge of flute is astounding (she has her PhD), but she's a bit...reserved and a bit of a hard nose. But, I love her dearly. Lovely lady.

Anyway, my question is this. What should I play for the audition (my technical piece, I have my melodic piece picked out)? LOL

Should I play my original audition piece from 8 years ago (Doppler's Fantasie Pastorale Hongroise)? Should I play the Pulanc 1st mvt. since that was the big thing we had just finished working on together? Or, should I pick something else all together (that is going to require more work than either of the above pieces to prepare)?

I'm very rusty (haven't played outside church in years) so either is going to require a lot of practice and brushing up.

Thanks for the input!

I would pick something completely different. You want to show that you have evolved (so to speak) since then. Pick something that you can attain in the time that you have.
