Does anyone have a list of like their top 5 music colleges for flute....besides conservatories...in the country?...in California? If you do, can you tell me a who the teacher[s] is/are?

I don't honestly think there is a 100% accurate way to rank schools, simply because each school is set up so differently. However, not too long ago a statistical survey was done of Music schools around the country, based on the way the school is funded, and the structure of the school's leadership. I found it very interesting, and not too far from what the public generally considers to be the "top music schools" in america.

University of Southern California has a wonderful flute studio. The teacher, Jim Walker, also teaches at Colburn which has been recently called the "Curtis of the west coast."

Yeah USC is a good school, I'm just worried about the area over there....*scary!!* I've never heard of Colburn though, sadly, thanks for the suggestion :D I'm going to look into that for sure.
