I have never heard of Simba
or Sapphire. I would try to stay away from those off brand flutes if at all
possible. They may be more affordable at the time you are purchasing them
but...how long they will last for you may be an issue that you may find yourself
dealing with. If your Selmer Bundy is working for you I would probably stay with
that until you can afford something a bit more well known or an established
brand. I don't know anything about Selmer Bundy's but I HAVE heard of them in
fact a new girl just started at my daughter's school and she plays a Bundy.
Some of the more well known brands that you may want to stick with would be
Armstrong, Gemienhardt or Yamaha. You will find people that have very strong
opinions on each of these also. But opinions aside at least these more
established brands are more likely to take carry you for a few years. Good luck
with finding what makes you happy. Kim

Thanks for that, I have never
heard of simba its ment to be an ameriacn brand, a sapphire is by rosotti of
london and are quite good flutes, tend to be mid range price to buy new but dont
come up for sale that often, its a very easy flute to play which is why i was
hoping to get another, I have now got my eye on a buffet crampon, Any views on
that?? thanks from jen

personally i would stay away
from the buffet flutes. they make great clarinets, and are very well known for
that, but not so much on the flute side. another reason to stay away from
extremely inexpensive flutes are because they tend to be referred to as
"disposable" instruments in the music industry. most repairment won't even look
at them or consider repairing them because they don't know if the mechanism is
weak or could possibly break. and they generally don't hold the repairs very
well. in general go to a reputable dealer that carries yamahas and or
gemeinhardts. also, i have personally played through about 50 jupiter student
flutes in the past year, and i think they sound pretty good, and seem very
comprable to yamaha for a little less. best of luck!
