embouchure: upper lip placement
Since I've stopped taking lessons for the summer, I've noticed that the end of my upper lip is even with the end of my top teeth when I play in the low register. Should this be avoided?

Umm... I think I just did. Watch. I'll do it again. "That sort of lip placement would lead to a pinched and thin tone.agnostic wrote:Nobody can tell you that.
Just some wry humor. Lighten up a little and try not jump to accusations so quickly.
Besides. What I was thinking, was for the end of your upper lip (meaning the bottom edge of it) being along the bottom edge of the top teeth. In order to accomplish this, you have to really pull the lip up and tighten it. Time and time again, excess tension has been proven to be detrimental to tone. combining excess tension with pulling the lips away from the flute worsens the problem. But, if the OP's problem is differently than what I imagined, then my advice would be inaccurate.
