Hi everyone! First some quick background about me: I'm 38, and already play a number of other non-flute instruments (guitar 27 years, clarinet 12 years, piano about 10, etc.). I run a home recording studio where I write & record my music for fun (non-pro.).
I want to teach myself how to play the flute (at least the basics). I just bought one on eBay (Gemeinhardt 2SP) and am awaiting it's arrival. My goal isn't to become a pro who can sight read like a champ; rather, I just want to be able to achieve a good tone, and be able to add nice flute melodies to my guitar and piano music as might be appropriate for the song. Given my age and other musical experience (and humble goals), I feel I can "go it alone" without seeking a professional teacher.
- Does anybody have any tips that they can offer to a total beginner (who already at least knows music in general, albeit non-flute)?
- Practice suggestions for good solid tone?
- Other web sites that are "can't miss" destinations for a newbie? (Boy do I wish we had the web when I started music so many years ago!).
