Overhaul
Hello All~ Its about time for a full overhaul on my main flute (diMedici 1011) and Im asking everyone for help. Im not sure where to have the work done. I purchased the instrument new from JL Smith, but they have yet to respond to 3 emails Ive sent over the course of 2 months about an overhaul. You'd figure in a bad economy they would want to help someone willing to spend a couple hundred dollars! But I digress. Has anyone used Fluteworld repair ect? Or can you recommend someone? I dont trust anyone locally (AZ). Thanks for you time!

I've used Carolyn Nussbaum Music Co.

She did COA on my Haynes (with C# trill and inline Split E which complicated matters) and did a wonderful job.

I've always found the folks at J.L. Smith to be very responsive. What email address are you sending to? I found a couple of possible conflicting email addresses:
From their contacts web page:
To schedule a repair: cphillips@jlsmithco.com
But on their workshop page I see:
cathy.phillips@jlsmithco.com (corrected: there were 2 i's rather than 2 l's)
There's always the owner:
Jeff Smith: jsmith@jlsmithco.com
In spite of the wonders of technology, email is NOT guaranteed to be delivered. Sometimes a good old call on the landline works best...

I will also recommend Carolyn Nussbaum. She's terrific to work with and highly respected in the field; not to mention a very nice person. I've dealt with her on many occasions, and can say without reservation that she is a stickler for quality work and would never do anything substandard. She will also be very honest and upfront with you; i.e., if there is something that just cannot be fixed, she will surely let you know prior to doing any work. No, I don't work for her . But I do know her, and have trusted her to work on my own instrument before with very good results. Her contact info is on her website:

Another alternative one of my friends has recommended is Clifford Tretick:

I've not used him, but the person I know who has recommends him highly. He worked for Brannen for many years, and now does his own thing. I understand that he quietly does work for some of our big-wig flutists.

I have had work done at both all these places. Everything from adjustment, to restoring vintage instruments. Not only did these place do great work, they were honest and resonable!
Just thought I plug my favorite
