Need help choosing a competition piece

Okay...
I'm auditioning for COFA and I need to list the pieces I'll play in the finals (assuming I get in).

Fantasie by Faure is required (and also my contest piece)
Danse de la chevre by Honegger is the tape round, so is not allowed for the final

I have 15 minutes to show everything off.

Would the first movement of Mozart's concerto in G and the Faure be good enough? And show off my range?

What do you think?

HOW FUNNY!!!!!

I am auditioning for the Collegiate division of the COFA competition.

I hope we both get in.

If I get in, I will be playing the Hue Fantasie, and the Liebermann Sonata. A program that covers lyrical artistry, tonal palettes, and straightforward aggressive technique.

As for a piece to compliment the Faure, I would do something classical or contemporary. Baroque music is hit and miss with competitions. Either the judges love your interpretation or they hate it.

The Mozart would be nice, but it would have to be squeaky clean technique-wise.

Something contemporary would be nice too. But with Contemporary it either has to be flashy or filled with extended techniques to have a shot at holding up in a competition.

hmmm... I don't know. Ask your teacher.

The problem with playing standards in a competition is that everyone has strong opinions on how they should be played. I have judged a few of these things and have learned that how someone was taught to play a piece often reflects his/her opinion of how it should be interpreted, right tor wrong.

I would go with something contemporary, but not too over the top. Again, ask your teacher. He/she will know your playing style and level much better than any of us.

I'm always nervous to play something edging on the contemporary side because I'm afraid I'll get an old-fashioned judge who thinks i need to show my classical training. Though I suppose the Faure really would do that, huh? I don't know what to do! I'm going to ask my teacher tomorrow. Maybe some cool unaccompanied piece?

I was just wanting to check to see if you made it. I just recieved my notification email. Unfortunately, I didn't get in. But, that's the way things go sometimes. :/

In a way, I am a little glad I didn't. I checked my calendar, and it turns out that I have a recording session the night before (and the festival is 3 hours away from here). So I wouldn't have gotten any sleep. So I guess it's a good thing.

Anyway, I hope you did! *fingers crossed*

I think your second piece should be something older than Faure; he sort of spans romantic and modern. Mozart isn't a bad idea, but predictable. Haydn, maybe.

But I made Interlochen's summer program, and I feel as if thats enough good for me this year

If I can go--the 7k fee is a little steep for me. I'm trying to figure out a way, but its not looking good at the moment.
