Pain

Post by Bo »

Do you feel pain in your legs after playing standing for awhile?

I do, but it is probably that I also play other instruments (guitar and piano), so my legs are under a lot of strain. :x

Any advice?

Thanks,
Bo

Exercise your legs. It's the best thing you can do. Conditioning is the key word.

Is it very bad to practice sitting, at least partly?

Bo, I play most part of the time sitting, because I work at a symphony orchestra. Though I like to practice at home standing.
There is no problem in switching from one to another.
What I meant by exercising is not when you are playing. It's must be a completely independent practice, totally devoted to conditioning the muscles of your legs. Even a good walk (say 30 min. a day) is effective to this, plus you will gain in breathing capacity and help your heart to work better :-)

Thank you, Zevang. I am relieved! :)
I do like to go for a walk - weather permitting... The weather Down Under is totally crazy....
I think the pain in my legs is mainly due to the guitar. Many classical guitar players have pain in their legs.
I will try to alternate, maybe 30 minutes and 30 minutes....

Bo you should see a Podiatrist. It is possible orthotic inserts could alleviate your pain.

I think I would need a guitar support because my pain comes from there, but I couldn't find one in my area.... :x
