Pearl 795 Japanese versus Taiwanese made

Post by beelady »

Hi there... first post for me.

Great forum from everything I've read!

Can anyone tell me if there is a difference in quality with the newer Pearl 795 coda series flutes made in Taiwan versus the older model flutes that were made in Japan?

Planning on upgrading and would like to know all I can.

Thanks in advance!

Im playing the 795 Coda now, luv it.

However, i have never played the true handmade 795's from the past.

Good to hear! Thanks for the reply. What did you play before? Did you notice a huge difference? In what way?

Sorry for all the questions... but living on the west coast, there are not many, if any, music stores that sell quality flutes. So I'm having to buy online.

There are several places on the west coast that sell quality flutes. You just have to look around. I think in Los Angeles there is a place called Flutacious or something like that. I had a student purchase her Powell from there.

The 785 Elegante's from Japan were handmade instruments with Pro headjoints.

The Taiwan Elegante's are still somewhat handmade in the Taiwan factory but have only the Forza cut available on them.

Japan flutes come with a choice of quite a few cuts of pro headjoints. That is the biggest difference.

If you can find a used elegante from Japan, it would be an excellent choice. The pro japan heads do fit the current elegante's but you would have to buy them separately.

Thank you Joe and fluteguy18.

I will check out flutacios. Do you know of any flute stores that sell professional flutes in the SF Bay Area. Or in Oregon. I live in Eugene, OR.

How does it compare to 775?

Post by wtogami »

I have owned a Pearl PF-775 for ~12 years now. I bought it used from another student at my high school so I don't know for certain, but I believe it was made around 1995.

I am wondering how does the 775 compare to the 785 or 795? Is the 775 Japan comparable to the modern 795?
