I just bought a new Muramatsu and it is wonderful. However, I find that
I am occasionally hitting an overtone instead of the intended note. Is this just
an adjustment period, or could something be a little off with the flute. I am
used to a Gemeinhardt, with only a silver headjoint.

It really depends on what type of flute that you are used to
playing, I think. If you have just switched to an open hole (which I'm guessing
your new flute is, if it's Muramatsu) flute, and this is your first experience
with open holes, then I would say this you just need an adjustment period. It is
sometimes difficult to cover the keys on your right hand ring finger and pinky.
If you think that this is the case, then I suggest buying plugs to plug up the
holes. However, if you have played an open hole flute before and when you
compare your old flute to your new one, you see that the new one is... not
functioning as well, then I would suggest you ask other people that have that
brand of flute if their flute is "different." Perhaps you need to contact the
company that you purchased the flute from, and ask if you could possibly have
them check it out. Only YOU know if there's something wrong with your flute...
Just follow what you gut is saying. I hope that I helped you with your problem.

Problems with the Muramatsu is not the likely answer keep
working. This is a beginner knowledge forum, you might want to also ask on a
more advanced one. You could have bought enough Purple flutes for a whole chorus
for what that Muramatsu cost.

Expect an adjustment period as you now see Its not a
mechanical problem or open holes its just a much better flute and like a race
car it has to be driven differently than an economy car Get used to it and you
will amaze yourself as to how good you are
