Dear moderators & owners

I'm interested in starting a new forum for my orchestra musicians association.
I see that this Fluteland forum is based on phpBB that seems to be an environment for developing such a board.
Is it free?
How do I proceed with my plans to stablish a new forum?

thanks in advance

phpBB software is free, open source software.

http://www.phpbb.com/

If your orchestra musicians association already has a website, you are halfway there and you could host the forum there. Otherwise, to setup a forum using the software, you could provide your own server, but that that is not for the inexperienced. Server administration, security, and other details require a lot of time and knowledge. I'd suggest contracting with a service provider to host your forum. The costs typically depend upon how much disk space and how much network bandwidth your forum consumes. You could probably start with a modest service level agreement (SLA) and then upgrade later if your forum traffic warrants it.

You would probably want to get you own domain name so that you have a unique URL for your forum address. (like fluteland.com)

I hope that helps.

Thanks guys!

It happens that, besides being a flutist, I'm also an IT guy, with some background in webdesign, java developing, database administration (also a bit of mainframe programming ;-) I think with some help of some close friends I'll be able to get things working.

Our Musicians Association still doesn't have a website. So I'll look for a provider and we see what happens next.

Anyway thanks for your inputs. It was what I needed to know for now.
