Hey,
Next fall, I plan on auditioning for my University's marching band. I have been playing the flute for nearly 9 years now and am long overdue for an upgrade. I still have the same Selmer on which I started. Throughout most of high school I rented a Gemeinhardt from my school but I am now looking to purchase a Flute.
Some direction in which brands I should look at, what level instrument I should look at, and where I could look for purchasing would be great. I want to be able to make payments over a period of time, don't know if that's a standard thing. Just don't have 2k+ to spend all at once.
Thanks,
Zach

Re: New Flute
Most of the information you seek is contained in the Fluteland FAQ:

Read that first and then if you still have questions, come back and ask them. Regarding payments, a few stores may have credit plans or loans available but most will want you to use a credit card for time payments. Some stores offer rent-to-buy, but usually that is only on the very low-end student instruments and with that method, you will end up paying more than the full retail price, so I cannot recommend that approach.
