Artley 18-0

Hi,
I have an Artley 18-0, 695425. flute, I've had it since i was in jr. high and it was used before that. It plays great and I have no problems with it. I try real hard to take good care of it, it gets "tune up" every so often, pad checked and things of that nature. I am tring to find out some information about it: When was it made? Is it silver/silver plated?(I assume it is because i can polish it with sliver polish and it shines wonderfully!) and what kind of flute is it?? I didnt realize till today when i starting searching Artley flutes that not every flute has the same (sound?).For example I didnt know there were bass flutes. well any info you could give about my flute would be great or even to point me in the right direction to find out the information on this flute!

Your Artley would be from around 1984 or 1985. There should be a 2-digit prefix in front of the serial number. Add 50 to that number and that will be the year of manufacture. See:

The 18-0 is a student model Artley flute. It would be plated with either nickel or silver. If it turns brown or black, that is silver tarnish and would be a silver plated model. Be careful using silver polish on the body and keys. I recommend that you leave polishing to your flute technician. If silver polish gets into the key rods, it can contaminate the oil and cause excessive wear to the mechanism.
