What is the difference in french pointed keys and
Y-arms keys??? Do pointed arms affect tone? What are the pointed keys there
for?? Thanks!!! [:)]

Pointed key arms look a little fancier and are
often found on professional instruments. Y arms are simpler and are often found
on student and intermediate instruments. There is no reason why one is better
than the other, its purely aesthetic (although I've seen it written that
pointed arms are somehow mechanically more stable and better than y arms). Check
out http://www.larrykrantz.com/graphics/keyname.gif It has a picture of a key
with a y arm and one below with a pointed arm. -Bradford

Pointed arms supposedly seal the pad more evenly
and exactly. I have never seen it proven but know of no advanced flutes that use
Y arms.
