It's been like a GAJILLION years since I've posted on here...I think the last time I did was about me telling you guys I was a finalist in the last Youtube Symphony Orchestra auditions. So that was last December! Wow, time flies!
I'm a junior now at the University of South Florida now, still working on my degree in Flute Performance and loving it more and more everyday. I play as Principal Flute in the USF Symphony Orchestra this semester and I just found out I'm one of the winners of the Florida Flute Association's Adv. Masterclass Competition so I'll be performing the Griffes Poem in masterclass for Carol Wincenc at the 2012 Florida Flute Convention! (I've heard some odd things about her in masterclasses...can anyone who knows anything tell me?)
Just as a little catch-up of things I've been doing between my last posting on here with all the YTSO news and now...let's see...
Last year USF's new School of Music opened and we got a completely new building with a new recital hall and new concert hall...the building is completely state-of-the-art and is on the same level as Juilliard's, as the acousticians have said.
I played piccolo in the USF Symphony Orchestra last year and got to play alot of great standards like The Planets, Symphonie Fantastique, Death and Transfiguration...etc! When the new building opened, the orchestra was chosen to play the gala concerts celebrating it, so we had to prepare a program that was performed twice, two nights in a row. We premiered a new work for Augusta Read Thomas that was written just for the premiere for us and the USF choirs. On the program was also...DAPHNIS AND CHLOE! So yes, I got to play the Ravel in the orchestral setting with the choirs singing with us in the new hall! It was an AMAZING experience playing with the three others in my section and the rest of my orchestra colleagues! And I got to perform it TWICE!
I also had a sophomore recital that I shared with my friend who was doing her junior recital. My portion of the recital was the Griffes Poem and Messiaen Le Merle Noir...then we ended with a favorite, the Doppler Andante et Rondo.
In the summer, I went to a masterclass in West Virginia with Jim Walker and Alberto Almarza and performed for both of them...I learned TONS! Then later in the summer I went to Jim Walker's Beyond the Masterclass: East Coast Edition masterclass in Charlotte, NC. It was a great blast! I really loved Jim!
Right after that class, I then attended the NFA Convention in Charlotte, NC! I was a winner of the NFA Collegiate Flute Choir Competition so I spent a lot of time in rehearsals and the performance was a great experience! I was also attending as the winner of the NFA's Frances Blaisdell Scholarship so that was also another great experience for a first-time NFA convention attendee.
Right now, I'm just practicing tons for auditions, competitions, and teaching lots! Grad school is soon...and so is my junior recital! The program I am working on right now is:

Bach: Partita in a minor (III, IV)
Patillo: Three Beats for Beatbox Flute
