Who are some good flute professors?

Post by saxyfluteguy »

Hi, I'm a sophomore all-state flute player from Texas. I've been seriously considering the option of becoming a music performance major in college, so it would be really helpful to know about some of the better flute professors in America. The only ones that I'm aware of are Amy Porter at Michigan, Marianne Gedigian at UT, and Jim Walker at USC. Any input would be really helpful. Thanks! :D

A few off the top of my head:

Bonita Boyd - Eastman School of Music
Tadeu Coehlo - North Carolina School of the Arts
Jeanne Baxtresser - New England Conservatory
Doriot Dwyer - Boston University

There are lots more and I'm sure others will chime in...

Michel Debost - Oberlin
Kathleen Chastain - Oberlin
Carol Wincenc - Juilliard/ SUNY Stoneybrook
Bart Feller - Rutgers
Shelley Binder - Univ. of Tennessee
Leone Buyse - Rice University

I would have suggested Walfrid Kujala at Northwestern but he's retiring this upcoming May.
