Repairing Leaks

Post by booklet »

 My husband managed to fix my problem so I am just taking this text away. Nice way to start on a forum! My F# key was leaking and he managed to get under the... whatever the trill key is called to fix it. For the future, is there a trick to doing this? I think he was sort of lucky to manage to move it to be honest.

Hi. Sorry if I dissapoint you in some way, but revising and regulating flutes are very specific tasks that only a trainned technician can do properly. You're lucky your flute is not damaged by now. There are minor adjustments that can be done by the flutist him/herself, like turning regulating screws (if there is any) so you get rid of certain leaks.
But in the majority of cases, the leaking itself is caused not by deregulated keys, but by demaged pads. That's why it's important to take the flute regularly for a revision, just like you do to your car, if you want them to run properly for years and years.
