Hardwood, the new wind quintet commissioned by NFA, the International Clarinet Association, International Double Reed Society, and International Horn Society, will be co-premiered at NFA by Imani Winds on the Gala Concert, Fri. Aug. 10th, at 8pm.
The following morning at 9am the composer (me) will be giving a lecture/presentation with Imani Winds about the piece and JWQP (the Joint Wind Quintet Project). JWQP is collaboration between NFA, ICA, IHS and IDRS. Last year they held an international composition competition to commission a wind quintet to be premiered at the international conventions of each society this summer. I'm humbled to say that I was the Winner, and this is the resulting piece.
If anyone is interested in seeing/hearing the piece in advance, you can view or download the score and stream the audio online here:

Following the co-premiere at IDRS last week, Marc Fink (oboist and former President of IDRS), wrote: "Hardwood is a wonderful quintet and a very significant contribution to the woodwind quintet repertoire. ... I think that the piece is as difficult and as appealing as John Harbison's "Woodwind Quintet" (1980)."
It’s also being co-premiered at ICA by Konza Wind Quintet on Aug. 4th, should anyone be attending that.
If any of you can make it to either the NFA or ICA performance, please do introduce yourself; it would be a pleasure to meet you!
Sincerely,
Lansing McLoskey

Thanks!
I make pdf's of the score and parts available for FREE download, so that people can easily print them out and read-through the piece to see if they want to perform it.
Of course if they do decide to perform it, they should obtain the actual published parts (on thicker, 10x13 paper, doublesided, bound, with all the proper page turns, etc.).
Part of the mission of this project as intended by NFA, ICA, IDRS, and IHS is to get the piece "out there" in the hands of as many good quintets as possible. Why some composers actually make it difficult for performers to see, hear, and evaluate their music is beyond me...
