So, I have until May 31, 2013 to audition for a college that I really want to go to. The requirements are as listed:
- 5 major scales of the player's choice
- Chromatic scale
- 2 contrasting pieces (Lyrical and technical)
What scales would you pick?
What pieces would you play?
I'm pretty sure that I will audition in early March to give myself time to prepare.
Thanks!!!!

Re: College Audition
How about you learn all of your major and minor scales (natural, harmonic, and melodic), then let the committee choose? If you're going to be a college musician you'll have to learn them all anyway. As for what pieces... I don't know how advanced you are or if you've ever had a flute lesson. Without that knowledge I can't even begin to recommend a piece. I don't know if you can play like this"

I would advise getting a teacher if you don't have one already. Being a music major is a lot more than just deciding you'll be a music major. It's completely different than your experience in High School. It's so much more than just being in band. Being a true student musician with serious aims at being a pro is a complete lifestyle. You have to live, breathe and sleep music. There was a point in my college years when I was playing between 8-12 hours a day. The other hours I was taking music theory, music history, music business, and various other music courses in addition to my regular general education classes. Any of my actual free time was consumed by private study time, listening to music in the music library and playing whatever gigs I could scrape together with my friends. Most serious collegiate musicians have 12-16 hour days. So in the process of consulting a teacher for what literature to play, I would also carefully consider your long term goals as well.

Good luck Lula!

The thing is, this a very relaxed audition. I am not going to be a music major, but a nursing major. The only reason I am considering doing this is for scholarship purposes.
