What are some of your favorite pieces to play ?
I haven't really been challenging myself with new songs lately because summer keeps me pretty busy. I thought I might get some good ideas of new music to pick up if some of you mentioned songs that you enjoy playing.
Tambourin, by Francois Joseph Gossec is my favourite piece to play
a good book is Solos For Flute-36 Repertoire Pieces, by Donald Peck

Hmmm...a few pieces that I particularly enjoy playing:
-Syrinx by Debussy: (it's probably best to listen to a recording of it before you play it-- it looks pretty confusing if you try to read it without hearing it. James Galway has an excellent recording of it I can recommend, and Hubert Laws did this cool thing where he recorded over himself playing it 2 or 3 times.)
-Pan Pastorale by Johannes Donjon: I came across this piece years ago and I used to play it all the time.
And of course, I enjoy playing all the Bach sonatas (I really like the Partita!) and Mozart in D.
Happy playing!

Thanks to everybody that replied. You have given me a good list to work from and I should be able to keep myself busy with the list of music you have all provided

I'm not sure what level you are, but Honegger's "Danse de la Chevre" is a fun one - it's for flute alone. It's a good one for advanced high school/early college players.

a very good song
Kim,
I've been playing the flute for 4 years now and the best piece that I have ever played is called Renegade Dances. It's not really for the flute alone, but is sounds awesome when the whole band is playing. You should really try it. You'll enjoy it.

Burton, definately!!! Currently, I'm plugging away at Bloch's Suite Modale (lovely piece, not too difficult), Bozza's Image (a little harder, unaccompanied), and Liebermann's flute concerto (quite challenging, but I'm finding it's absolutely playable). Pieces my 7th- through 12th-grade students have enjoyed this year include the Widor Suite, Hanson Serenade, Mozart concerto (G major), Gaubert Madrigal, Devienne's works, Paubon's Quatre Pieces (short, relatively simple-a nice introduction to French styles), Debussy's Syrinx, Telemann's Suite in A Minor, Flute Music By French Composers (edited by Louis Moyse, published by Hal Leonard), Bloch Suite Modale (inspired me to perform it!) etc. Pieces I would like to revisit when I have more time--Burton, again, Ibert Jeux (sonatine-two movements) and concerto, and Hindemith and Prokofiev sonatas, and maybe the Bach B Minor Suite. So much good stuff to play!!!!!!!!!!
