Inspirational classical music

Post by MissyHPhoenix »

Hey y'all, decided to catch up on my listening this summer, so I've been taking the time to sit and enjoy my classical collection. Just finished 1812 overture and, as usual, I had goose bumps throughout the performance.

My normal "goose-bumpy" pieces include:

1812 overture
Rite of spring
Ride of the valkyries
Night on bald mountain

Looking for more goose bump inspirations. What are y'all's favorites?

:D

Well, off the top of my head:

1812
Finlandia
Jupiter (from the Planets)
"Never give a flute player a screwdriver."

If you know anything about percussion, then you'll really appreciate--

William Tell

American Salute (When Johnny Comes Marching Home) by Morton Gould

Second one esp gets me with just how beautifully he used the entire percussion section as a musical section, rather than merely supporting the winds/strings. Gorgeous writing. Simply gorgeous. And gets your blood pumping even if you know nothing about percussion.

These rest aren't particularly percussion-y--

Firebird Suite

Star Wars (the original)

Duel of the Fates (from Star Wars 1)

Carillon (from L'Arlessienne Suite)--specifically, the performance by the handbell choir, recorded sometime in the 70s. Worth the effort to find

There's probably others for me, but these are what came to mind right away.

Thanks! Reminded me of some that I love, and ideas to listen to others I've never heard. Exactly what I wanted!
