Hello ~ I'm new

Post by Ladyflute »

Hi - I happened to stumble across this great site while
surfing the net. How sweet it is to find a group of people who love the flute as
much as I! A little about myself...I am an "almost" 40 mother of three, very
happily married for 20 years, and have played the flute since 5th grade (I dare
not count up the years...yikes!) I also play the piccolo, alto flute, bass
flute, Irish Flute and pennywhistles. I am a member of our city''s very large
Flute Choir (the largest in the USA!), and have played for many years in my
church orchestra. I teach flute at home, and enjoy playing for special events,
weddings, ect... I am an avid gardener and have worked as a vet tech for years.
Being a "mom" and wife is my #1 joy, but playing my instruments comes in as a
very close second...lol. I have a wonderful, handsome & brave 19yr old son
serving in Iraq, a beautiful "flute-playing" 17 year old daughter, and a strong
and handsome 11 year old son. Thanks for letting me barge into your group - I
look forward to getting to know some of you, and gleaning from all your flute
knowledge! Blessings... With a joyful song...Ladyflute

Ladyflute Welcome to the board. I haven't been
posting much lately but it is nice to see new people joining. I am one of the
"older" flute players here. I HAVE hit the big 40. I am slowly working back into
playing flute more regularly. I played all through school but gave it up until
about a year ago. I am also a avid gardner and work at a garden center. I also
have a flute playing daughter and she is 13. I look forward to getting to know
you better. Keep posting...the board gets slow from time to time but tends to
pick up again before long :) Kim

Hi Kim! ...another "oldie", eh? :-D Excellent! Thanks
for the welcome...I too, hope to get to know you better. What kind of flute are
you playing? Are you studying with anyone? I wish I could, but with kids lessons
to concentrate on, and the cost of my lessons - well....you know, prorities.
It's all good - I learn a lot by playing in a flute choir consisting mostly of
pros(of which I am NOT!). Humiliating, but educational. lol Curious - what zone
are you gardening in? What do you grow, and what are your favorites? (is that ok
to deviate from a flute topic once in a while here?) I am in zone 5 - a short
and furious growing season. If I didn't have my music during our long cold
winters, I would probably go NUTS! I would think it would be dangerous to work
at a Garden Center...I'd spend most of my check right there! "Aaaah"
roses.....and ferns...and..... And a Mom of a teen girl - how great. Aren't
they a blast? Well...most of the time. Fun and expensive! My youngest starts
band this year - 6th grade, and he chose the trumpet! My house is going to be a
VERY loud place, between my picc and his new trumpet. Earplugs anyone?? Yikes!
Do you and your daughter play together? I love doing duets with mine. Where do
you play? Or are you just enjoying the flute at home? Well..enough questions for
now. Have a great day! [:)]

Hi Leanne - thank you for saying HI! Your picture is
so pretty - you look very proud of that flute! What kind do you have?
Curious...do you study privately during the summer, or do you "vege out"? I'll
be chattin' with you again...thanks again for the welcome!

Hi Ladyflute~ I am playing a Gemeinhardt M3 (solid
silver head, open holes, bfoot and a pretty gold engraved lip plate) It was my
daughters flute until she recently upgraded as it just couldn't handle the work
she puts into flute playing. Before that I was playing a student Yamaha which
will now be her marching flute so the switch works out good. I am not studying
with anyone but hope to someday. Financially it would be difficult since I am
paying for my daughters private lessons. We are a zone 4 here so we also have a
very short growing season. I grow a little bit of everything LOL, Bee Balm, Pink
and Purple Cone flowers, Sedum, Butterfly Bush, Jacobs Ladder, Russian Sage,
Lilly's, Iris, Peony's, a couple of Rose Bushes, Climatis, Hostas, and many
mystery plants that I brought home from work LOL. Trumpet,Flute and Piccolo in
your house huh ? I don't know if I could do that. My daughter also plays
piccolo and me and the dog usually head outside when she starts with that LOL I
tried her piccolo but it is just not my cup of tea. Yes, we do play some duets
together when she has the patience to deal with her slow mom :) I am really just
playing for my own enjoyment. I was inspired to pick it up again when my
daughter started playing and as you said it is nice to have a hobby in the
winter time when we are stuck in the house. Yep it does seem like kids get real
expensive when they hit there teens but on the other hand I find raiding her
closet for something to wear kind of convenient LOL Talk to you again soon Kim

Hi Ladyflute and welcome to the board! I, like Kim,
don't post very often (though it's mostly due to a lack of time). I'm 17 and
I've been playing the flute for about 7 years, so I too am one of those
expensive teen girls.[:halo:] I hope that everything goes well with your son. I
think it's great that he's serving in Iraq-- my couisn just married a marine
on Sunday that was in Iraq for the last eight months. Oh, and I have three
brothers...one of them plays french horn, another is a drummer and the other one
hates any kind of music other than rap.[:)] I think it's really awesome that
you play in a flute choir. So it sounds like your area probably has a lot of
flute teachers? For some reason, my reigion does not have many flute teachers at
all and a lot of them are not that good... Kala
Haha, this one is my favorite:
