Ok, I was first chair in all County, and first in state. I landed
second chair in my band. The first chair didn''t even make all county. Does
anyone else find this fishy?

Band seating is rarely fair--I've been seated all over the
place.. It's also very possible that the first chair was nervous or got unlucky
in all county auditions. If you are unhappy with your seating talk your band
director. Many bands allow challenges, where you can potentially move up in
seating. Your band director had to seat lots of people though, and probably
didn't spend much time listening to each person. -Bradford

30 I placed 9th out of) I placed 4th, it depends on what the people are looking
for and how strange their rating system is lol

There could be a thousand reasons. Often a band director is
looking for different qualities than a judge in an all- competition. The bad
theory that was pointed out is possible. I assume you wouldn't ask if you
didn't think you were a much better player. Without more information all we can
do is guess.
