Problem with B&H REGENT

Post by LancashireLad »

I have 50 year old B&H REGENT.Learnt to play it 40 years ago but let it slip.Just taken it up again but struggling to get notes below BottomA ! Have revised my technique but still no good.Begining to wonder if problem with Headjoint.Should I get new one? If so can anyone recommend good value replacement or, should I consider replacing flute completely?

B&H is likely Boosey & Hawkes, a UK music company. After 50 years of sitting idle, your flute likely needs a bit of TLC. Many times, it is easier to replace an older instrument like yours because the repair cost will often exceed the value of the instrument. Your first order of business would be to take it to a music or flute repair shop to get it checked over. They should be able to tell you what is needed repair-wise and whether you should repair or replace it.
