Does anyone know....

Post by Picc_Chick »

I'm looking for a summer "camp" that I can go to for either my flute or piccolo for next year, not this summer but the one after it. I'm a freshmen in High School sitting in top band with my directors breathing down my neck to find somewhere good for me to go to. Any help would be highly welcomed!

Flute ........ $1800
Uniform ........ $125
Shoes ........ $55
Winning UIL for the first time in 13 years ........ Priceless

For everything else, there's Band Parents

Try Northern California Flute Camp, or Idyllwild in California. For a master class experience on the east coast, try the Julius Baker MasterClass series in CT.

Also, if you subscribe to Flute Talk (through the Instrumentalist Publishing Co.), you will find listings for summer festivals, camps and master classes.

Keep searching the internet as well. There are TONS of opportunities in the summer!!

It's also very good to plan ahead of time, as many of these events require a taped audition and you should really prepare those well!

Have fun!!

Sry, I haven't been on lately. Thanks for yall's help but it looks like I'm going to try to stay closer to home this summer. I've heard about Blue Lake and Interlockin but the audition tapes had to be in around the first of feb (if I remember right, which usually isn't correct  ) so I'm looking for something in Tx or around the Houston area so it won't be too long of a drive.

Mary Karen Clardy has a few classes this summer at the University of North Texas (called "Flute!" I believe.) There is a one that is just for middle schoolers and one just for high schoolers I believe. The deadline for applications is May 1, so you could still apply this summer if you wanted, and I'm sure she will have similar summer sessions next year. Although this is just for flutes, not a band camp, I'm sure it would be a great experience. Mary Karen Clardy is a fantastic teacher and I think she has a particular knack for teaching teenage students.. I'm sure there are plenty of band/orchestra camps around Texas as well if that's particularly what you are interested in, but I imagine most of the deadlines are in February or March.

I should add, Mary Karen's website is http://www.mkclardy.com, you can find all about her summer programs there.
