Yamaha F100 flute

Post by ifoxwell »

Hi all

I'm afraid I know nothing about flutes but want to buy one for a friend.

The 200 series flutes seem to be a good introduction to flutes so i was looking for one of these but came accross the 100?

What are these like compared to the 200

Thanks in advance
Ian

I can't find these on the Yamaha website. Are they still made (is the one u found used?)? The YFL-221 is a standard US beginner model, and would be a good choice, or the YFL-211 overseas. Also the Armstrong 104 or Gemeinhardt 2SP (silver-plate). All of these are easy to find gently-used, for not much $$, or new for a bit more. :D

Hmmm...careful with EBay...not that the seller is dishonest or incompetent, but some are. I would email the seller and ask for a serial number and more information about that particular model, or contact Yamaha with the serial number (with this, they should be able to tell you when it was made) and ask for more model information. Be sure the seller has a good return/exchange policy in case you're dissatisfied with the instrument upon its arrival. Also, be sure to not pay too much if the flute's going to need any repairs or a repad when you get it. If this flute's not built at least ot the specs of the 200 series, the price (almost $200 US) seems high already.

This is an older model flute--Yamaha has since adopted another model numbering system. Unfortunately I don't know what current model would compare to this flute. If the flute is in good condition in might be worth it.. It is important to be cautious on ebay, but the seller didn't just make up the model F100.
