A Solo Question
I am looking for a flute solo and/or duet to play for my school's concert... I really didn't know what to choose.... I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.... *kinda new here so didn't really know who to ask*

Re: A Solo Question
Um... You could go with something classical, but I personally wouldn't for THIS event.
Um... My favorite composer lately has been Edelson. He has some nice solos and they're fun to play. Such things as "Jellyroll Jam" and "Puppet Parade." He does have a few that are harder than Puppet Parade, but they're still pretty easy. Especially for someone at your level.
(I'm at about the same level- 5th grade starting, 11th grade now)

One of the favorite pieces when I was in high school was choosing one of G.F. Handel's Seven Sonatas. I played Sonata II in G Minor when I was a freshman, and with a little work, it's completely doable for someone who has had 5 years of training. Sonata II in G Major, starting at the Allegro part was also one that was challenging, but very popular with the other flutists. I don't suggest it unless you are pretty good at your tongue work, though, because it's easy to get tripped up.

I started in 4t grade and I'm also currently a junior. But I know from my band that "junior" doesnt say much as to talent. If you were up to playing them, I would suggest, the Haruno Umi, which is a beautiful Japanese piece. Or the Concerto in D Minor by Danzi. That piece is very long and rather difficult but with some cuts is a extremely fun. I'm going to be using that piece for my college audition and I think that if you had a good amount of time to work on it, it could be great for the occasion or saved for something else!
Hope that helps!
