Poll- What kind of flute do you have?

my first flute was a Jupiter (not sure the level, it had a curved head joint) but then I upgraded to a Yamaha 481.. then I upgraded the head joint to a 681 then I bought a Conservatory Powell with silver head joint w gold riser. The Yamaha and the Powell were stolen last May so about a month ago I purchased a Brogger Brannen with a Brogger Acoustic with an off-set G, C# trill key, lower G insert and D# roller and a Modified Cooper sterling silver head joint with a rose gold riser and lip plate with the insurance money. I thought that the headjoint wouldn't be all that great just from people talking, but I managed to find a really good one..

I'm not gonna lie, my flute is really sexy

I'm in the market for a piccolo right now though because my aunt sent me $2500 USD so I'm fairly certain I'm going to get a Hammig

My main instrument these days is a 14 karat rose gold Tom Green, with C# trill, offset G, D# roller, soldered toneholes....It's my dream flute, and I can't see ever parting with it. I have several others that I have played in the past, or picked up cheap to repair and resell but haven't gotten around to actually selling just yet.

1967 Handmade B-Foot silver Haynes; recently added a Burkart head, silver w/ 14K gold riser (I highly recommend Burkart to anyone looking for great headjoints).

Wow, flutepicc06, that sounds like a really beautiful instrument! How does that line of flutes run? I've never played/heard one, but yours sounds great!

Thanks! That line of flutes runs very expensive (to most people...Actually relatively cheap when compared to the larger companies), but also extremely nice. They are all custom built, one at a time, and the only employees of the company are Tom Green and his two sons. There is nothing I would change about the flute (besides having it engraved, but that's a personalization thing more than anything), because it's so absolutely stunning. If any one is shopping for a new flute, I highly recommend the Tom Greens.

i play a Delphi professional with open holes, 24k gold plated keys, B-foot, split -'E" mechanism. Very good quality flute.

I'm sorry, but Delphi flutes are not particularly high quality, nor is it a truly professional instrument. They were (I don't believe they are being produced under the name "Delphi" any more) among the cheap Chinese imports until up to about a year ago (maybe less). Your particular instrument may be fine, but most of them literally fall apart in the course of normal play, generally have a poor scale, and a less than desireable head. They are almost always made of cheap pot metal that is easily damaged, andincredibly difficult to repair, as well. Every maker of flutes has a line of "professional" flutes, but for most of them, a professional would not consider using that flute as their primary instrument (or even a back up). These "professional" flutes may be at the top of the line for that maker, but that does not necessarily mean they are particularly nice flutes.

bought an emerson EF88BOF solid silver tube, open holed, off set G, B foot, It feels really good in my hands, the mechanism is beautiful, however, the headjoint was colourless and didn't hold many surprises so i bought a handmade headjoint Andrew Oxley London, solid silver 14ct gold riser and lip plate ......... now it's an excellent instrument and allowing me to do so many more things that i couldn't do in the past.

i have to say flutepicc06 with your last posting regarding delphi flutes i think you are slightly out of order, why would you want to poop over someone elses flute ?? if flute princess likes the instrument she's playing on then isn't it good enough for her ?? You have no idea the age of flute princess or her sensitivity - she is obviously very proud of her flute and you had no right to take that away. I find the snobbery in the flute world unbearable.

Well, Chris(Flutepicc06) has never been one to hold back his opinion. In the end he is very helpful to people around this board. I would not take his comment quite snobbishly.

I have been in the same hot water about flute brands when I was on another BBoard, and made a few descriptive comments about Altus flutes, not even think about the fact that most of the people on these boards are teenage girls...lol, or the people actually worshiped their instruments. I had to learn to keep comments like "foo foo" and girlish off of flute boards. As it turned out, it was very entertaining seeing the feministic replies I got from all of the "Girl power" crusaders. Not to mention all of the people whole owned Altus flutes. Being an owner of many flutes, one flute just does not mean that much to me. To others, their flute might be their God.

Cut Chris some slack Angiepea. Most people do not put as much time into this board as he does. Although it makes me wonder when he has time to play

As far as snobery in the flute world, that is nothing new. I consider my self more than a decent player, but just because I do not play on $10000 gold intruments, I am often snobbed off. Flute is such an underdog instrument, I guess flute players (or Flautists) have something to prove. This seems like the case in the classical community period. I guess if you discourage enough people, then that will keep the competition down. Who knows

i take your comments graciously phineas, and i have often wondered myself when flutepicc has the time to practice as he seems to be deeply involved in a couple of flute forums giving us all the benefit of his huge knowledge.

this forum more than most has a great share of teenage flautists (i'm english and flautist it is) and i have noticed on here a time or two some adult responses to messages obviously posted by children, so although i do take your comments to me seriously phineas, i still stand by what i said but will bow out now and make no more on the matter.

I did not intend to take away anything from Fluteprincess. I merely wanted to give her a realistic view of what she had, and to prevent any unknowing member of the board from taking the post as an inadvertent recommendation for the flutes. If that was out of order, I apologize. As for practicing, you'd be surprised just how fast I can make the rounds on the various flute boards. Still plenty of time for 4+ hours of practice a day.
