Poll- What kind of flute do you have?

Well, I dont think the comment was completely out of order, but the wording was a little harsh. Because this is a poll, perhaps the comment would have been more approprietly placed elswhere.

However, what is done, is done. We all make mistakes, but we all have our own branch of knowlege to add to this forum. So, even though the comment was slightly rash, it was informative.

I did not intend to take away anything from Fluteprincess. I merely wanted to give her a realistic view of what she had, and to prevent any unknowing member of the board from taking the post as an inadvertent recommendation for the flutes.

I think that is very admirable, but since some of the readers are young and perhaps easily discouraged, it may be worthwhile to be mindful of wording when replying to someone who is obviously young or to a new poster.

It's hard to convey tone on a message board. I do think Flutepicc06/Chris's comments come across as a bit coarse and he is proud of his knowledge but from his replies I can tell that he is informative, experienced and contributes valid information. This board benefits from his knowledge.

I get very frustrated with boards that contain vapid banter. Okay, back on topic...

I don't play on high end instruments anymore.

Current Flutes:
(indoor flute) Pearl Quantz 765RBE-CODA Silver Body, 10K Lip, Open Hole, B Foot w/gizmo, Offset G & Split E, C# Trill, D# Roller...all the bells and whistles
(outdoor flute) Geminhardt 3B with Sheridan headjoint

Piccolo:
Geminhardt 4S (chep but plays really well for me) All silver instrument with conical bore

Best Flute:
John Lunn handmade flute with rose gold body, silver keys and green gold accents. You can see the instrument in my icon. It really didn't play much better than my Pearl, but it was gorgeous work of art that I enjoyed for many years. I sold it to a worthy musician and used the money for the down payment on my house.

Other flutes played:
Yamaha 581H (highschool)
Emerson 88B (highschool)
Yamaha 481H (jr. high)
Emerson 3 (first flute...I think that thing was made out of scrap metal. LOL)

Flute in waiting:

I decided to get an Orpheus flute (Artiste Model) since it wasn't that big of an investment. I'll get back to you all on whether or not it is a worthwhile purchase. For the most part the feedback I have gotten from other owners is that it is a good instrument, but does have a couple of issues. I also posted those findings in the Orpheus flute thread.

Your points are all well taken, and I do apologize to anyone who I may have offended. I will take extra care in future to be sure that my messages do not come across as coarse or rude, and I sincerely am sorry.

I think what flutepic06 wrote was a bit much and rather rude. Where does this guy find time to be the first person to post on EVERY flute forum a reply to answers. It is great of him to take the time and help others, but I think it can also be very annoying and is coming off as a bit condescending at times and also being a know it all. Food for thought. How many times does this guy have to bring up the fact that he plays on a GOLD flute that Mommy and Daddy bought for him? Don't get me wrong, I am not jealous at all just in case someone wants to through that up in my face because of this comment. I can afford to go out and buy a gold flute, but I choose not too because I have never played on a gold flute that I like. Now, let's have fun and play nice

That's nice of you to apologize angelic_devil...

Like I said before, it's hard to convey tone of voice on a message board and I've gotten into tons of tiffs with people accidentally especially on other boards where I was in an administrative role.

Flutepic06/Chris has already apologized profusely and he seems more mindful of his wording (at least on this board. I don't know his behavior on other boards), so I think people should cut him a little slack.

So, what kind of flute do you play angelic_devil?

Thank you for the apology Angelic_Devil, but there is something I would like to point out...My parents did pay for part of the flute, but I also contributed a substantial sum to the purchase (in the area of about 8K). I am extremely fortunate to have been able to purchase the instrument I have, and I recognize that. I do not bring up the fact that it is gold in circumstances other than when I think it has relevance to the discussion at hand (say when debating materials, or quality instruments), and when I do, it is generally so people understand where my statements are coming from, not to make them feel inferior. I have to agree that every other gold flute I have played (and I have played at least one or two from every major maker) did not satisfy me, but I did not buy the instrument for the fact that it was gold either. It was such a fantastic fit for me that I would have made the same effort to buy it were it made from toilet paper rolls as I did with it made of gold. Thank you also Briolette for standing up for me. I have taken quite a bit of abuse these last few days, and I really do appreciate the kindness.

I remember back in the day(Jr High), the school would supply Bundy Flutes. I had a girlfriend who was a flute player, and she dreamed that one day she would buy an Amrstrng or a Gemmy. I think there are still people on that level. I can even remember the days when I use to boil my electric guitar strings because I could not afford a 5 dollar set! My first Guitar was a guitar I won selling greeting cards out of the back of a comic book. My first electric came out of a Sears catalog, and I used it for my first few professional gigs. Now, I can get whatever instrument I want no matter how much it costs!

Sometimes we take for granted that everyone is on the same level of awareness that we are on. One example of this is computers. I have several laptops, and desktops. I forget that most people still do not own a computer, or know how to use one. I think it is the same way for flutes. I have to catch myself sometimes and remember that the person I am giving feed back to may not have the same level of exposure as I do.

I have owned two gold flutes in the past and I understand where you are coming from. They both just fit me . . . and I got quite a bit of flack from others at times. Eventually, I sold them both (one financial - the other I found a flute that better suited my needs and my playing). It is a great privilidge to be able to buy the flute that you find to be your match. I definately want to praise you on the fact that you have never (as far as I have seen) brought that up to anyone other than in relevant conversation.

Others should also remember that the price of a flute should be relevant to what you really can afford. Sure, I would love for all of my students to play on handmade instruments, but that is in no way possible (unless I by some freak chance win the lottery). My first handmade came after I was out of college and actually making money playing gigs and teaching. For most of you here, your flute will last you a very long time if you care for it, even if you dream for something better

By the way . . . I LOVE Tom Green flutes. I met Tom a few years ago and he is a great, truly down to earth guy who knows flutes. If my financial means are better any time soon, my next flute purchase will be a Tom Green

How is it that you have time to practice 4 hours a day, yet you are on every flute forum 24/7? You are ALWAYS the first person to answer a post. How do you do it?

Oh, and I play on a SILVER David Williams flute with a Lafin headjoint.

It's not terribly difficult. Most of the time I'm signed on, I'm not actually sitting in front of the computer. I do manage to answer most posts, because if you notice, there usually are just a few people who regularly answer the posts, and not all of them will be on the computer when I am, so I get first shot.
