The company has got back to me and offered to exchange this flute for another if I wish, return it for refund, or if I keep this one they have offered to take it all apart and clean it up for me if I wish. I don't think I would bother as it would just get dirty again anyway.
I'm going to try it out again tomorrow. I think part of the problem for me is that I am so anxious to have this flute in my possession. I feel as though I am "walking on eggshells" and I have been so scared to play it. The company has assured me that I should go ahead and give it a "rigourous trial" as it is a well made instrument that will last a very long time.
I feel totally assured and my worries have disappeared. I think I was using the cosmetic flaws as a reason to not play it because I was so scared to cause it damage in some way. Apart from my second car, I have never had something so expensive in my possession before so it is kind of scary.
Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to reply to my thread. I'll keep you posted and let you know what I decide.
