Hamming or Burkart & Phelan piccolo?

Post by hk »

Hi, I am new here :D . I am considering to upgrade my piccolo (yamaha 62) and would like to see for advice. Does anyone try the Hamming 650/2, Burkart & Phelan and Global piccolo before? These brand seems have good reputation in the world. Are they really easy to go to highest "C"? Since I am living in a small city - Hong Kong, and we only have the Yamaha here...!

Sorry about the delayed response...

Both brands you mention are fine although you never know with hand-made instruments. I do not have an instrument endorsement but I play a Hammig 650/2 and I love it (and anyone borrowing it does too). I had played on a borrowed Burkart before several times, and the two piccs were very similar. However, I thought the Hammig had a nicer tone in the bottom register and had a slightly better scale. But again, that's just me, and it was a trial of 2 instruments, and it's only my opinion of the actual instruments I tried. So don't take this comment of mine blindly.

It is tricky to buy a flute/picc without trying it first, though. I'd suggest that you try them both out first. Hopefully you can do that without having to commit to buying.
