Venus Flutes

It's my birthday today and I wanted to treat myself to something nice. I was checking out some flutes on eBay when I fell IN LOVE with a gorgeous Venus flute. It was lovely. As to how it plays, intonation, and etc. i'm not sure. But it is positively gorgeous. I've been wanting to bid and eventually own this flute. I play in a grade 9 band and I'm one of the leading flutists. Currently, I'm playing on a Gemeinhardt Student Model (which is terrible). This instrument has tarnish ALL OVER the place and it sounds absolutely horrid. I'm looking for a brand, new flute to own. But it positively can't be over $200. I don't take lessons so I don't need something that plays AMAZING but something that is playable and won't sound horrible if I was a soloist. ANY feedback is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks so much!

Happy Birthday

I've owned a venus flute, and just sold it on. It's a good flute for beginners, but won't be any good for someone a little better than beginner standard.

For advanced players, it's ok so long as you don't want to play anything technical and you just wanna feel pretty while you're playing.

Thank you SO MUCH! I always get negative feedback about this flute and brand but it's VERY reassuring to know that someone once owned it and thought it was alright. How was the intonation of this flute? And was this flute easily broken? As you can tell, I'm low on cash and I definitely can't afford to spend $100 getting repairs on a flute. Thanks for the reply!

The only experience that I have with Venus was with a student last year. She bought a beautiful flute with gold plated keys and the works, hoping it would be an upgrade from her student flute (without consulting me). The flute played fine for about a month and began to have problems. One of the pads fell off, followed by an adjustment issue that was never solved. The metal in general was very soft, so the keys bent easily. One broke at the rod on the body. Just be aware that if you do buy one of these flutes and you have problems, most techs will not work on it because of this problem. So as far as repairs are concerned, you might as well not bother trying to have it fixed if it has problems. The flute comes with a warranty, but my student could never get in touch with the company when she tried. Basically, she ended up going back to her student flute. She would have been better off saving that money for a better flute later on.

Unfortunately, you will not likely find a new flute for $200 that is worth investing in and will be an upgrade from what you have. You would be MUCH better off trying to find a used one or spending the money on your flute by having it overhauled.

I think that's very true, although i didn't have any problems with my venus flute like that at all, i still thought that it wouldn't last very long before the mechanics would give up, that's why i suggest that the flute is suitable for beginners only, as beginners can't play for as long as the intermediate or advanced player. the only reason i got it in in the first place was because it was pink, and i could afford to spend £120 on a novelty, always remember you pay for what you get.

I recommed that if money is tight then treat yourself to a second hand Yamaha or something equivalent, then if you want to feel a bit more special, there's an american lady on e bay who sells gemstone crowns for flutes which are really attractive.

If you went ahead and bought one anyway, don't worry, if you look after it, it might just last you longer than we all expected.
