Gemeinhardt 52sp history/comparisons
I am considering purchasing a Gemeinhardt 52sp flute for my daughter to begin the flute. I cannot find any history on this model. What were the manufacturing dates? How does it compare to the 2sp model? Are there any other recommendations for beginning flutes that have a good tone? Thanks to everyone.

The 50 series Gemeinhardts are fairly recent, and were replaced just last year with the 70 series. They are very similar to the 2SP model (which is silver plated), but I have been told that they have better intonation due to some manufacturing differences that were addressed during the development process. Mechanically, I have seen few problems out of them.
I think this would be a fine instrument for a beginner. Yamaha is also a good choice, but more expensive. I have a few students start on Armstrong 104 with very few problems. Just avoid the no-names and some of the ones mentioned throughout this site, and you should be fine.
