hey, on june 16, im doing an audition for an orchestra...and im only in 9th grade, so this is my first audition. I am playing Mozart's G Major Concerto, and i have a private teacher and everything, but i keep thinking about stupid stuff like "what should i wear?!" Can anyone help me get through first audition jitters??

Well, I always dress nicely for auditions. You don't need to wear your nicest ballgown (I usually wear a nice buttondown shirt, nice slacks, and maybe a tie depending on the importance of the audition) or anything, but looking professional is never a bad idea when you are attempting to make a good first impression on auditors. Make sure that you show up early enough to allow a proper warmup, and don't worry about what the other auditioners sound like (if you can hear them). You can't affect how their audition goes, so why add that to your list of stressful things? Try to relax (taking a few slow, deep breaths can do wonders), and don't worry about mistakes while you are auditioning. If you hit a wrong note, keep moving, and don't make any sign to the auditors that you know you screwed up. Even if you're not confident, try to act the part. You might also consider asking if they will let you play a few notes to get a feel for the acoustics of the room, as you could very well hear yourself differently in the audition room than you ever have before. It may not help you for this audition, but in general, always be as prepared as you can, and you will notice a definite spike in confidence because you won't have left anything up to chance on the day of the audition. I hope that helps!

One thing that I find helpful in these sorts of situations is to just remember what you're doing, you're performing for the panelists! Try to treat the audition as a performance, and like flutepicc said, if you make a mistake don't let your disappointment show in your playing or on your face. Sometimes when I watch other classmates play, I notice that you can tell when they make mistakes because it's written on their face. No matter what you do, maintain your composure throughout the performance and even if you make mistakes just try to cut your loses and keep going. You have to realize that when you're under stressful situations you may make mistakes that have never happened before in rehearsal, it's just one of those freak things. Just try not to worry about those moments, and have as much fun as you can. It's just another performance, so just enjoy it as if you weren't being scrutinized haha.
Good luck!
