It's never too late to learn to play an instrument if you have the desire to do so. I think you'll find that many here started at various points in their life. Some started in 5th or 6th grade and still others started late in life. I've seen questions similar to yours from every age including senior citizens. Learning to play the flute is just like the old Nike logo: JUST DO IT!!!

Be sure that you start with a reputable brand flute and I urge you to take private lessons so that you don't pick up bad habits that will be difficult to unlearn...

Thank's for the reply.

I am picking a Native American Flute from a specific website for 160 USD. It comes with a cloth flute bag and Native Spirit Song Book with CD. I will also learn by watching videos online. Can't afford other brands for flutes. Didn't expect them to be that expensive so I will go with the Native American ones. I am also learning how to play electric guitar. What inspired me to play the flute is this video.

While NA flutes and other world flutes are sometimes discussed here, most of the members on Fluteland play the concert flute. We'd love to help, but you may get a better answer if you post your question on a forum specializing in the NA flute. You might try this one:

I have an amazing series of free lessons within this site. And, they won’t cost you a dime.

Yes, that’s right. And, I am uploading even more flute content as we speak.

All you need to do is sign up to get access. See the sign-in form on the right side of this screen? (or at the bottom for mobile)

Yes, that’s the one. Fill it out and I will get you started.

Make sure to use an email you will be using for this whole lesson series. I’ll contact you there.

Hey you better not be considering yourself old! I'm 25 :P I've only picked up the flute in the last year, and with weekly private lessons I've made (to me at least lol) amazing progress. You can teach yourself though, but I'd recommend private lessons if you've never experienced reading music before etc. It can be a lot to pick up on if you've never done it before. Once you get the basic music reading and some basic theory down you should be good to go :)

Don't be shy! Go for it! You'll do just fine! :)

It's never too late to learn to play the flute! It's not like gymnastics or dance or something where it's better to have started young or you will be far behind, anyone can play flute at any age! I highly recommend flute, whilst getting the sound at the start is difficult it is like riding a bike, you can't forget! Good luck!

Hey beginners!

I agree with all the forum folk! It's never too late to learn. Learning music has amazing benefits for mind and body - proven for the elderly ( but you are hardly that old!! HAHA)

I'm in the process of creating a flute site for adult beginner players like yourself. I have a regular blog as well as free learning resources available - and I'm adding more and more all the time.Have a look at http://www.theflutecoach.com

Depending where you are at in your flute playing journey, here are a few FREE resources that might be useful to you

1. A 5-part express video series taking you through the absolute BASICS of the flute. Within an hour I teach you how to blow your first notes
http://www.theflutecoach.com/how-to-play-flute/

2. A flute fingering chart for note learning that includes a bonus step-by-step video explaining how to easily interpret it and learn notes in the easiest way http://www.theflutecoach.com/flutefingeringchart/

3. My 'MOMENTUM SERIES'. Over one week I teach you a simple tune a day which develops your flute playing in 7 critical areas. I provide video tutorials, links to the sheet music as well as demonstrations of each tune (watch for the bonus on Day 7!) http://www.theflutecoach.com/beginner-flute-tunes/

Have a peak at the links above. I really hope they are helpful to your learning! Cheers, Christie
