I know this is weird but for some reason, whenever I play band music I sound horrible (horrible tone, horrible, horrible in all ways of sound) but in reportoire, I have a nicer tone and all. Did this ever happen to you? Is there a particular reason?
I always have to practice my band and reportoire separately because if I play the band music then my sound gets thrown off...Strange.
How strange

Sometimes I tend to think this too, but I then realise that it is usually that I am not blending properly with the rest of the players around me. So, perhaps you are using a brighter or maybe darker tone color than everyone else. Or, perhaps you arent tuned properly, or your intonation is off.
Playing with other people is all about blending the various sounds of the group. If you dont blend, then you stick out, and not neccessarily in a good way. So, I would try blending more with everyone else. I would also check the pitch of a couple of troublesome notes that you dont think sound right. Perhaps you are playing those notes too high or too low, and dont really notice the subtle difference when you are playing solo.
