This may be a completely terrible idea, but it just occurred to me: the flute warms noticeably when it's played. You set it down for a few minutes, it quickly cools off. If you're in the middle of a performance (for example, switching between flutes, maybe you have an alto or piccolo part for a few minutes) you go to pick it up again, and it's cold - you need to blow for a few moments to re-warm it up. You can't just grab it and start playing as you were when you set it down.
Is there such a thing as a heated flute stand, that would keep the flute warm between these brief switches or pauses?
For most of us, the cooling flute is not a big deal. I have an alto I occasionally switch to for a few minutes, then I switch back to my regular flute, it warms up after a minute or so. But for serious, professional musicians, I could imagine that it would be helpful to be able to keep their flute warm while it's resting.
Of course, I'm talking about small changes in temperature here. And any heating device that gets the flute hot would I'm sure cause serious damage to the pads. I was thinking maybe a small device that blows a stream of warm (not hot) air through it...
Just crazy thought.
And now, I'm going to pick up my cold, cold flute and re-warm it...

Re: Heated flute stand?
Not exactly, what you are describing, but these work pretty well. I have the Altieri flute cozy and while it doesn't add warmth to the flute, the insulated cover does help keep it from losing heat.

Well, with a name like Blowtorch who wants to heat their flute, maybe this would fit the bill. Of course, be careful though, it only goes to 500 degrees Celcius.
