I immediately did what I typically do with flutes, and attempted to play something traditional and Irish. I found that this flute is better suited to meditative pieces. 
I made up a little tune last night (after practicing the Chinese New Year song on my bamboo dizi) to test the cedar flute out. If you are curious about how these Native American flutes sound, you can find a recording of my not so great

It's the one on the lower right corner out of the six. (The "drum" is the sound of my hand slapping the cover of a vinyl, three-ring binder
, but feel free to envision a fire blazing at night while the drumbeat drives the dance, if you wish.)I named the piece "The Dancing Pony", because the flute I received has a carved mustang racing toward the sound hole (which, oddly enough, leaves the player gazing at the rear end of a horse
. This horse "totem" is useful for quieting the flute at night, by partially blocking the soundhole.) This is one of those E-bay cedar wood flutes with the horse totem and "Navajo" written on them.
