It''s been 20 years since I''ve played on a
daily basis and I''d like to start playing again. What exercises would you
recommend to get back into shape? I remember most of the fingering and scales.
Thank you![:)]

Hi~ Welcome...I also just picked up the flute
again after not playing for 20 years. I am lucky in the sense that I have my
daughters beginning and intermediate books to help me along. Most of the notes
came back easily to me but I am still working on some of the sharps and
naturals. I have been working on long tones and harmonics to get my tone and
embouchure back into shape. Kim

Hi!! You might want to start doing scales and
getting a flute book to help you get back into the swing of things!! - Best of
luck!! [:)]

[:)] How wonderful! I started playing again one
year ago after not playing for 17 years. I agree that harmonics are a great way
to improve tone, as well as scales, scales and more scales! You will be
surprised how quickly everything will come back to you. Some of my struggles
have been reading music with 32nd notes, 12/8, 16/8 time, etc. The nice thing
about today is that they now have cds that accompany some of the music books and
songs that you purchase, so you can hear what the exercises or songs are
supposed to sound like. This has been a great help to me! I have recently joined
the local community orchestra, and that has also helped improve my performance.
Hope this helps! Good luck and have fun! [:)]

I have also just started playing the flute again
- after an absence of 25 years. Like you, I am amazed at how much I remember -
but also at how much I have forgotten! I bought a good book to help me re-learn
everything from the basics onwards; I have forgotten the music-reading part
although I can still play reasonably well and produce a decent tone. So I am
treating myself as an absolute beginner and will see how I get on. I also want
to find a good flute teacher to give me a good grounding and some real hands-on
advice. Will
